9th Grade Field Trip to the Museum of Illusions in Philadelphia. In preparation for the IB Diploma Program, students are introduced to how easily we can be tricked in our perception of the world through what we take in through our senses. The Museum of Illusions is a physical, visual and sensory experience teaching students about perspective, and how our brain interprets reality.

Starting today, Library is all about building reading stamina for our students in K-5. Mrs. H is teaching students what it means to stay focused on reading after they pick out a book. The classes are competing against each other to see which class can have the most minutes read in their grade during sustained silent reading during Library. First prize is a free VIP tour of the Book Fair when it comes! The pictures are of Kindergarten students from 114 being super focused on their (newly acquired) reading skills!

6th grade students hard at work in I&S as they read a text about two ancient civilizations they are learning about in this unit. They are also recording what they notice about the prompt and the essays to learn more about what makes an exceptional text dependent analysis written response. Each group has a different piece of writing and one group has a rubric, and they will share out to learn from each other.

8th grade leaders presented to 7th grade about their experiences for Service as Action. Our leaders shared projects they have done in their communities and neighborhoods. Engaging with people and organizations outside of school is an important part of the IB program as they gain an understanding of local issues. Students have worked with GreenDrop, and the Womens' Animal Shelter. Other students cleaned up community centers and playing fields or interviewed soldiers about their experiences.

On Friday January 10, 7th and 8th grade students attended an assembly led by a speaker from Minding Your Mind. The students heard about the speaker's personal experience as a middle and high school student struggling with anxiety and depression. Students were able to ask some questions. This assembly is part of our ongoing work with students in social-emotional learning. https://mindingyourmind.org/
