Our school community has been collecting donations for Fostering Hope Lower Bucks. As a culminating community impact project in I&S, 6th grade students shared messages and sorted and packaged the donations. A representative from the organization came to speak to the students and say thank you. They were able to open a free shop for the foster families as result of our community impact project. Great job SLCS!

5th grade students had an exciting day at the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ yesterday. They explored all the different aquatic animal exhibits, walked the shark bridge, felt stingrays and starfish, and a lot more! The students are learning all about biodiversity so this was a great field trip! You can see more photos here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/AV3xgNnfKczYY8DE7

The 6th grade students had a fantastic time at the Maryland Science Center today! The students attended a planetarium show and learned all about the stars during different seasons and made connections to Greek mythology. They explored exhibits at the museum about topics like power and electricity, space, health, and dinosaurs. We are grateful that the weather cooperated so students could spent time outside and play in the playground and the inner harbor area. It was a great day! We had a fantastic time at the 5th and 6th grade SLCS dance Friday night! It was a night with great music, dancing, a photo booth, and delicious pizza. A memorable moment was when some of our 6th grade leaders passed the baton to 5th graders and gave a speech about what it means to be the leaders of the school. The concert band students performed a wonderful concert on Thursday evening, showcasing their impressive skills. Many of the students in concert band have been studying with Mrs. Windle for the past few years and their dedication and effort was reflected in the performance. There was also an assembly for younger students today where the concert band students were able to perform for their peers. We are all so impressed and proud of their accomplishments! Great job musicians and a huge thank you to Mrs. Windle for an outstanding instrumental program!

The Beginner Band students took to the stage for their first concert performance of the year, and it was a memorable and inspiring evening for everyone in attendance. The concert showcased the tremendous progress our young musicians have made since the start of the year. The students performed a variety of pieces that highlighted their developing musical skills. We are proud of our beginner band and look forward to seeing their continued growth as they develop into accomplished musicians. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our students and to those who helped make this event such a success!

6th grade students are busy with their community impact project as part of their I&S class. Some of the 6th graders are visiting classrooms in the mornings to talk about our project to the other students. Others are collecting, sorting and packing the donations brought in by students and families at the elementary campus. Our “Hype Crew” made this video to promote their efforts towards getting school wide support through donations for Fostering Hope Lower Bucks. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/ygoTh2qM6-8. We are collecting donations through May 20!

SLCS sixth graders recently participated in several rounds of the Sixth Grade Spelling Bee in culmination of their studies in spelling and foundational English skills. Yesterday afternoon the finalists from each homeroom were supported by their classmates as they were challenged with Scripps National Spelling Bee’s “Words of the Champions” in the final round of the Spelling Bee. It is always an exciting event! Congratulations to all of our participants who showed off their spelling prowess!

We are proud to share that one of our 6th grade students was honored at this year’s Young Writer’s Award ceremony hosted by the international organization of women educators, Alpha Delta Kappa. He read his honorable mention composition which described his ability to play piano as his super power, and shared a beautiful recording of himself playing “Solfeggietto” composed by C. P. E. Bach at the ceremony. Congratulations!

🎉 Our second graders wowed us tonight with their *math mastery* and *entrepreneurial spirit*! 🧠💡 At their exhibition, students designed creative math games, and became the teachers, guiding families in fun, hands-on learning. 🎲➕ Families played, laughed, and practiced math together. Future innovators in the making! 👏✨ #SLCSproud #MathIsFun #StudentCreators #FamilyLearningNight

In the "Leader in Me" framework, "synergize" means to combine efforts and ideas to achieve a result that's greater than what could be achieved individually. The 6th grade students have been learning all about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and were able to share what it means to synergize with Ms. Quinn's class when they worked together on an activity to plan a party. The students had to use their math skills to budget and work together to decide who they wanted to invite and what activities, food, and drinks they wanted to have available. They did a great job working collaboratively, showing that when you synergize and work together effectively, you are able to produce better outcomes than what would be possible alone.

The 6th grade hosted a Greek Mythology Wax Museum exhibition that was a great success! The students researched and created visuals that displayed the name of their mythological figure, a Bio Poem, pictures and descriptions of any symbols or animals associated with their figure, their domain(s), and any special powers or other facts and details that demonstrate why they are unique. The students could dress and act the part in their presentations, and they went all out! The museum visitors had a scavenger hunt to complete by filling out information they learned as they visited the various exhibits and listened to the presentations. Fantastic job everyone! Students in 5th grade Science worked in groups to plan, design, and construct a tool they thought would help clean up an “oil spill”. Students were provided with a few materials and they had to create something they thought would help clean up the oil that had “spilled” into the ocean. In this unit they have been learning about environmental issues such as pollution and deforestation, and the importance of our protecting our renewable and nonrenewable resources.
