Starting today, Library is all about building reading stamina for our students in K-5. Mrs. H is teaching students what it means to stay focused on reading after they pick out a book. The classes are competing against each other to see which class can have the most minutes read in their grade during sustained silent reading during Library. First prize is a free VIP tour of the Book Fair when it comes! The pictures are of Kindergarten students from 114 being super focused on their (newly acquired) reading skills!

Yesterday the 6th grade accelerated math students pitched restaurant concepts to a panel of experts. Their job was to persuade the judges that their concept and costs would be sustainable long term and convince them to “invest” in them. The students worked very hard and did an excellent job! Congrats to our winners and their Cozy Critters Café! A special thanks to our experts: · Karen Schade—CEO of SLCS · Mirosya Bauer —Business Manager at SLCS · Ed Batejan—Chef at Vereiningung Erzgebirge (VE Club) · Pietro Iovino—Owner of Pistol Pete’s Seafood See more pictures of the event here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/CHgg7rbvwduhauv76

The 4th grade students presented proposals for a zoo animal exhibit at their exhibition this morning, combining scientific research with creativity. They also used math to determine the exhibit space area and perimeter. The students were persuasive and excited to share with the audience what makes their animal so special and why it should be chosen to be at the zoo. This afternoon our 6th grade students attended an assembly with Mr. Litton from Action Karate. He talked to them about the importance of goal setting and how to take it one step at a time to make a lot of progress in the end. He also talked about how to be an upstander and to stand up for yourself and others in a firm but respectful way. One tip he shared was to have confidence in yourself, ask a question, or use humor to diffuse a situation.
