The 4th grade visited Pennsbury Manor on Friday. They are currently learning about Colonial America and during this field trip they were able to see historical reenactments and hear stories about what life was like during this time period. Today March 22 marked the first performance of School Lane's own Story Slam. Inspired by The Moth Story Slam, 9th grade students shared stories about their month of wellness.
6th grade students had the opportunity to ask local officials from Bensalem and Senator Farry’s office about efforts to increase sustainability in our community. They learned how our township is exploring geothermal energy, ways to reduce pollutants from reaching streams and waterways, and efforts to make our area a nice place to live through the many community outreach programs. Students will use this knowledge when completing a group project about a sustainable city and have to make decisions on energy sources, green spaces, waste management, and more.
On Friday March 15th, School Lane Charter School hosted our annual College and Career Fair at the IB Campus. Students had an opportunity to meet with representatives from many colleges and universities as well as professionals from many walks of life talking about career options. It was nice to see so many SLCS alums back on campus to share about their career paths with our current students! Thank you to all who made the day such a success. The 5th grade visited the Camden Aquarium yesterday. They were able to see all of the aquatic animal exhibits, walk the shark bridge, feel stingrays and starfish, and a lot more! The students also participated in an interactive activity where they learned how long certain items take to decompose and all about the importance of conservation, which is an ongoing topic throughout the year. One of the hallmarks of the International Baccalaureate's Middle Years Programme is Personal Project. MYP students in their final year explore an area of personal interest over an extended period. It provides them the opportunity to consolidate their learning and develop important skills they’ll need in both further education and life beyond the classroom. It also helps them develop confidence to become principled, lifelong learners. The 5th grade students learned all about the Philadelphia Police and Crime Scene department from a 5th grade parent this morning. They heard about her role as a crime scene investigator, job responsibilities, and career choice as part of a Career Readiness lesson. Each student was able to participate in a fun activity where they saw how fingerprinting can be collected as evidence.
Invitation to Personal Project Exhibition
The 6th grade students did a fantastic job at their Greek Mythology Wax Museum Exhibition last night! Guests walked around and visited different exhibits and could press a button to hear the "wax figure" share a bio poem and interesting facts and details. This week a group of 9th grade student leaders helped an out side organization Tree Trails to work with 8th grade students. Tree Trails is a ropes course based in Trevose. Their schools' program includes self awareness and confidence experiences. Activities involved character and team building.

7th Grade Leadership gave a presentation this morning on the IB Learner Profile Trait Balanced. Students talked about their own experiences with balancing school and extracurricular activities, and gave strategies and suggestions to the class.
